Nature Photography Meetup

Nature Photography Meetup

Sunday 21 July
Morpeth - 10am - 2 Hours
Northumberland Photography Group
Macauley Cullen
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

The park for this event is a great location to start exploring the genre of wildlife photography with its many water birds from the majestic swans to your plucky ducklings. The water is often full of activity as we head towards the end of the breeding season with many females raising their second clutch of the year.
Join Jenny to learn the basics of wildlife photography in this beautiful setting. By the end of the session you'll master some simple techniques that will get you great results, including composition techniques, and using manual settings.
Although you only need minimum equipment for this session, I highly recommend bringing a telephoto lens that goes to 200mm. If you are working with a heavy lens, I also recommend bringing a tripod with a ball joint pivot.

Another superb photography meet-up with Georgios to work through getting the most from macro photography. The day was sunny, but freezing cold with thick snow - we were able to make use of the snow and ice crystals to get some great shots! Yay! Really looking forward to the next events.

It was a good walk around Durham with a knowledgeable tutor who's clearly enthusiastic about architecture photography, and I learned several things, including one especially good tip. I'd happily join another of Jake's classes.

It was an amazing introduction to photography. Jake was so knowledgeable and was generous in sharing this knowledge in a way that encouraged me to have a go and believe in myself. We were able to explore the best options for different light, close up pictures, composition and much more. I left feeling inspired and motivated to do more with my camera. I can't thank Jake enough for a fantastic course

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Georgios Ntazos
George is doctoral student of Social Anthropology at Durham. He graduated four years ago from his postdoctoral studies in Visual Ethnography and Social Anthropology. Throughout his Master's studies, he learnt how to make a documentary from scratch. From earlier on, he had tried multiple brands of cameras like Nikon, Sony, Canon, Olympus and Fujifilm for his stills.

At the moment, he is focusing on his doctoral studies, his support work with young care leavers and people fighting with their drug and alcohol addictions and trying to avoid homelessness. In the meantime, he enjoys travelling every two to three months around the world and visiting his home country, Greece. He is using mostly macrophotography as a way of expressing his love for small objects and the details of an environment affected by humans and their insensitive actions over nature. George has recently acquired a Portrait lens and would like to invest more time into capturing people's faces within spontaneity whilst respecting other people's privacy. George believes in the social significance of photography to disturb those abusing power and stereotypes about minority communities and marginalized individuals. Also, he believes that art should be original and authentic with our own feelings.

I got a macro lens for Christmas one day in January I want out looking for a subject to try my new lens out on. This fungi was at the Old Quarry in Bishop Middleham. It's a SSSI and part of Durham Wildlife Trust. The light on the fungi caught my eye it's a bonus that fungi don't move so I could have several attempts at taking it's photo.

I was on a photo workshop in the park with about 8 others. We set up for the night in the Cathedral Overlook campground. At about 3:30 am, the leader got us up and we drove, then hiked to this spot. We took astro shots, then waited in place for a couple hours until early light on the cathedral formations. This is was a merging of the two exposures that created this image.
