Once again, Nick Small was an excellent instructor. He took into account our various camera systems and lenses, and tailored some his suggestions to each of the students accordingly. The weather, while I understand this isn't really fair to rate, was absolutely perfect for Black and White photography and made the event even better. Downtown Durham was a great location for this, offering up industrial opportunities in addition to people as subjects. Even as the official time ended, Nick continued to walk with any students who wandered around, offering up additional suggestions.

I really enjoyed the whole event... I have seen Nick's events on the Orble email before and decided to give this one a go. Never worked with Nick, or been to Sunderland and especially the Sea Front. It was a very well structured and guided session by Nick. Started with his goals & expectations for the session and then we worked in groups and in one to ones with Nick. Very clear guidance, instructions and demonstration pictures were taken by Nick. The other photographers were great to work with also. Would definitely recommend one of Nick's courses and will look out for more in the future.

This was a lovely friendly session exploring central Durham. What I particularly liked was being encouraged to look for more creative shots! Rather than simple composures, looking at what other angles, approaches might yield a more interesting photo. Especially when exploring the use of a shallow depth of field. Also one of the participants (Phil) very kindly loaned me his 50mm prime lens with a fantastically low ?f? number of 1.8 providing an amazing shallow depth of field. My best lens could only offer an f 4.0 - Thank you Phil I have never had the opportunity to try such a fabulous lens.

Nick was very informative and helpful. We had four students in total and he gave all of us individual time, tailored by our previous experience. I learned additional tips and tricks in addition to how to effectively use a shallow depth of field. I am eagerly awaiting a B&W class with Nick as well.

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Nick Small
Nick believes its important to listen and collaborate closely with fellow photographers when working together. In doing this he can gain an understanding of an individuals skill and what techniques they could use to build upon existing knowledge to illustrate their photographic style either in an environment, event or just for personal expression . He feels communication through the image shows the feel and expression of the creative photographer.
Having initially tutored creative design in the education sector for over twelve years Nick found the calling to return fully to his passion photography. Exhibiting his work in restaurants, hotels, through printed media and curated exhibitions as well as working with live client's, he felt the calling to return to the North of England which strengthened his creative goals . After eight years its still there and always growing. With his co-photographers he likes to move forward to find fresh visual perspectives and sees photographic work as a joint venture to gain the appropriate solution for all.
As he says... walk with me and create.

Nestled nicely on the edge of The Lake District National Park. Lovely view of the mountains. This particular morning i decided to take photo's of flowers, a bit of Macro.. something I don't normally pay attention to. This one of a seeded Dandelion
